New Canadian Immigration Program for Filipino Nurses

Based on my interaction with the Filipino community I’ve always held the belief that there is an intrinsic aspect of the ethos of Filipino people to care for others. I believe that this is why so many excel as Healthcare Professionals. Being an Immigration Attorney, I like to think of my clients as my patients and care for them, educate them, minimize and explain risk and work with my team of qualified professionals to develop a plan to maximize your chances of success.
Canada needs nurses. Our demographics are changing, people are having fewer children and the baby-boomer generation is reaching the age of retirement. These changes in our demographics creates a two-fold deficit in the number of healthcare professionals Canada will need because as our population ages they require more healthcare professionals but the experienced healthcare professionals that are on the front line of Canada’s health care system are also retiring. The perfect solution to this problem is to bring nurses like you, to Canada as permanent residents (Canadian green card), with your families, to keep our population strong and healthy.
Although I often travel to the Philippines, Southeast Asia and my partner, Cleo Dimayuga to the Middle East, to promote our program and services to the Filipino community, my practice is located in the province of Quebec. Quebec is a unique region of Canada in many ways.
It is a very multicultural part of Canada with many different spoken languages and commonly held values that differ slightly from the rest of Canada and one of these values is their view on immigration. While many Canadian Immigration programs are reducing their numbers or tightening their requirements to qualify, Quebec Immigration remains largely untouched and very much in favour of healthcare professionals like you.
I commend Immigration Quebec for their proactive approach to solving nursing shortages by making it easier for nurses to come here and fill the gaps that exist in our healthcare system.
The beauty of the Quebec Skilled Worker Program (QSWP) is that unlike all other Canadian Immigration programs commonly known, the QSWP can be applied for solely based on your qualifications obtained outside of Canada. The program itself does not require a Canadian job offer, there is no limit to the number of applicants that can apply if you are a nurse and you are not required to show settlement funds to be eligible for this program.
If you are a bachelor of nursing graduate, under 35 and have 4 years of nursing experience you should qualify with minimal language requirements. If that doesn’t match your career and educational profile don’t despair as there are many different factors that can contribute to your eligibility. For example, having children and your husband’s credentials can help strengthen your application.
I should mention that when you apply under the QSWP you should show intention to reside in the province of Quebec but as a permanent resident your freedom to live and work anywhere in Canada is protected under the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms.

Hi! the Embassy should take about 15 months currently to issue the work permit as a LCG. If you have a bachelor of nursing, why don’t you apply in our program? Immigration adviser or imiigration atty doesnt work directly to canadian immigration. There are loads of imiigration consultant here in canada. Sometimes the word immigration and nursing is very sensive. Madami naloloko. Im not lying. Ask people u know here in canada. Kahit complete requirementa ka u come here in canada u will undergo SEC and h still need to go back. Sa school ng 6-12 months. Im talking by experienxe.

If you have less than 4 years of work experience we can still qualify you if you accept to learn basic French conversational skills and write a French exam called the TEFAQ. From our long experience in the field, it takes our clients about 3 – 4 months of taking serious French classes to reach the desired level and qualify! hey fellas this article is right.. FSW is closed for now and QSW is so open for us filipinos. i have applied mine dec 2011 and got my quebec selection certificate ast August 2012. my interview was waived thank God so i didnt go to HK. but it doesnt apply to everybody that is depending on how much points you have. it is no scam at all if you apply on your own or go to a consultancy. i studied french in alliance francaise in cebu for 3months. apply now while the application is not that strict yet and no qoutas. try and maybe we will find our luck!.. currently my documents were sent to nova scotia.. waiting for replies from them. this is the federal part

Mabuhay! My name is David and I am a nurse in the United States. My wife is Filipina. She and I worked in Nursing for many years until burn out and health issues plagued us. This is the quickest way to gain entry into a good paying Nursing profession here in the United States. (No BS, No lies)
1.) Find an American Citizen on Facebook’s poker sight or World of Warcraft, etc.
2.) Marry the American.
3.) Come to the United States and get a job working as a Nurse’s Aide in a Nursing home on days and then go to weekends.
4.) Go to school to become a Licensed Practical Nurse. It takes about 18 months. (The state of Indiana will even pay for it!)
5.) Hire on at a staffing agency here in the U.S. make at least $24 per hour. Minimum $14 per hour in hospitals.
6.) After working for one year go back to school for the LPN to RN program, it’s only one more year of your life. Don’t wait 2 years then you have to take a bridging course.You will be a RN in the United States. Agency pay $32 per hour.
Option #2 continue to write in a worthless blog that will get you nowhere. Although therapeutic it may seem it’s not getting you to North America. We need Nurses too! Why? Everyone is getting older and the Nurses like me are tired, over worked and have health issues. My wife runs circles around me and always did when we worked in Nursing.
Why do I offer this information? Because I know all the in’s and out’s I am here and the love of my life is Filipina. I know where you are coming from, trust in that!
Ivy Tech Community College in Indiana is abt. $7,000 per year many Nursing facilities will pay for you to go to school.

1. Immigration, Accomodation and Relatives in Canada
I have an uncle and auntie who lives in Canada, but they are in Vancouver. They just came here for vacation 2 weeks ago.
-my only concern is that you are pushing for Quebec and other provinces, I have no problem learning French, I can start from scratch. But this is would be a hurdle for me
2. Experience
I have total of 11 months hospital experience, so I am a little bit short in the pointing system (the online pointing system has criteria for: less than a year, more than a year etc…) so I lose a lot of points here, I could have reached 68 points.
3. Language
English – speaking,reading,listening,writing in English, no problem
French – no idea but willing to take lessons
-question, is IELTS (General) required?
4. Education
graduated with diploma on BS Nursing
total 17 years of education
5. Arrange Employment – NONE
6. Adaptability – No spouse, Single, 26 y/o male
***It is very unlikely that I will be approved as immigrant because:
1. My close relatives are located in Vancouver
2. I still don’t know French language (but willing to learn)
3. My work experience is short (only 11 months) – but during this entire application process I can start to add my experience by being employed in a hospital
***And 1 more thing, you didn’t mention that as nurses WE STILL HAVE TO PASS THE “CRNE” to be able to work as a nurse in Canada***
-I have not taken this test yet, I am now taking IELTS – Academic for Australia bridging course requirement.

Regarding the assessment I believe you would need some basic French language proficiency in order to safely make the pass mark for the Quebec Skilled Worker program. If you are interested kindly email [email protected] to continue this conversation.
You can absolutely work as a Nurse in Canada. Most likely you will need to be certified. One option that I suggest to many nurses is that working as a care giver will still pay significantly higher than most nursing occupations in your home country. You can work on your certifications part time while still earning a sizable salary and making connections that will help you in your future employment.
That being said as a permanent resident of Canada (equivalent to a US green card) you are free to work in any occupation you like and in live anywhere you choose in Canada. You can be a Chief Executive Officer (CEO), a Nurse or even an Astronaut!

My wife is a registered nurse and working as a staff nurse for almost 10 year but was inactive (not working as a nurse) for almost 5 year now and she 40 years old. She was working as a health care assistant in New Zealand for almost 3 year. Can she still be qualify for QSWP?

Under the Quebec program they only look at the last 5 years of employment.
It’s a points based system.
The Quebec program awards applicants 35 years old or younger with more points than a 40 year old but points for your work and educational experience as her husband can add additional points. The age and number of children you have will also add additional points if you have children.

Applicants begin to lose points under the age category after 35 years old but this is not necessarily a barrier to apply because the applicant has sufficient qualifications to offset this requirement. There are many different factors that can contribute to your eligibility. For example, having children and your husband’s credentials can help strengthen your application if you are married or have children.
Quebec has prioritized Nurses and awards a significant number of points to any applicant who has completed a nursing degree, regardless of where it was obtained.
