Like other parts of our body, our feet deserves their much deserved TLC. Without them, how can you move forward, how can you stand up and chase after your dreams?
The moment you wake up to the moment before you lay down for a good night’s sleep, it’s no doubt that you use your precious feet. Whatever work that you would like to accomplish in your everyday life, you need your feet to take you there.
So, here are some useful tips to keep your feet looking and feeling healthy and always-on-the-go!
- Having healthy feet starts with you having good hygiene. Regularly wash your feet with soap and water. It doesn’t have to mean that you wash your feet every hour, washing it when you take a bath in the morning and another before going to bed is enough (also depends on the circumstances). You’ll feel refreshed and it will definitely help prevent your feet from becoming irritated because of the dirt if you leave your feet dirty.
- PLEASE! AVOID WALKING BAREFOOT! There are thousands of microorganisms everywhere that can enter your skin and become the cause of injury and infection to your feet.
- You can remove calluses by soaking your feet in warm/lukewarm water for a few minutes and then use a foot file to remove the calluses and hardened skin. After washing, it is best to dry your feet thoroughly (and in between your toenails) because microorganisms multiply best in areas with moisture. Leaving some moisture in between toenails is also the cause of having foul odor of the feet.
- Change your socks daily to help prevent Athlete’s foot and other foot infections caused by bacteria, fungus and viruses that live, grow and multiply on dirty feet.
- Wear shoes that are appropriate for the job and the setting. If you’re going for a hike, then wear hiking boots; if it’s raining heavily, then use closed shoes, etc. If you’re required to wear heels at work, then you can just wear it when you’re inside the office (use more comfortable shoes when you’re traveling to work).
- Always choose comfort over style. I’d give this advice mainly because, sometimes, there are shoes that LOOK good when you see them, but when you try them on, you have difficulty (whether walking with it, or it makes your feet feel tired fast). If possible, qvoid wearng pointed shoes–these put pressure on your feet and makes you more pronw to cramps.
- If possible, avoid sharing your footwear! It’s always best to use your own because you can get foot infections and other foot-related diseases by wearing other people’s footgear. (You’ll never know if they are suffering from Athlete’s foot or anything!)
- When buying your shoes, they say it’s best that you buy late in the day, because feet tend to be at their largest during this time. By this, you can be rest assured that the shoes you will buy are comfortable.
- When trimming your toenails, cut it straight across instead of rounding the edges. Cutting it straight across prevents ingrown toenails from developing.
- Every once in a while, treat yourself to a foot spa. (It’s not really a requirement that it should be a well-known spa, even at home, you can treat your feet to a little pampering.)
They also say, you should wear good shoes, because good shoes will take you to good places. I’d say, before you can wear good shoes, you have to take good care of your feet first. After all, how can you wear good shoes if you have injury (much more, infection) on your feet?
