My friends call me Rochie, sometimes Chie. Anything shorter than that would not make sense at all. :) I am a full-fledged Nurse, armed and ready to serve the people of my country... for two, or maybe three years. Then I'm off to another country to help my family like everybody else. What? Anyways, a short explanation: Why Gabriela Silang, RN? I plan for my pieces to be fearless, honest, passionate, and able to reach out and speak for minds who sometimes can't for themselves. I want them to appear as if written with the same voice as that of the Ilocana heroine who was so full of fervor about the things she believed in that she was ready to sacrifice her own life for it. Thus, Gabriela Silang, RN.
Yes, I am a registered nurse, but ever since I was younger I've always had the flair for sharing stories and reaching to other people. So, I express those inexhaustible passions through writing. I write both prose and poetry; essays, editorials, short stories, poems... about anything under the sun (sometimes, under the moon, too), pretty much.
Instead of choosing only one of two careers, I chose to pursue both: being a nurse, and being a writer. When I was studying nursing, I also was the editor-in-chief of our school publication. Now that I am a RN, I do this, blogging, publishing on the net, sometimes collaborating with fellow artists who are in the same medical profession, but would want to be heard with their true, inner voices from time to time, too. In the future, when I'm steadier on my job as a nurse (meaning once I have been paid enough to actually save-up and afford my plans), I would also like to train and take-up classes on writing.
Thank you very much for taking the time to read my profile. Enjoy my posts, and feel free to comment. :)
