The Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (PhilHealth) said it will hire 600 nurses who will provide “superior customer care” in public hospitals and will be tasked to ensure “the stress-free” availment of PhilHealth benefits.

PhilHealth said the nurses will be employed under PhilHealth as Customer Assistance, Relations and Empowerment Staff (CARES) and will be stationed in all public hospitals starting with the bigger public hospitals in the country. They will also facilitate the payment of insurance premiums in the cashier departments of public hospitals.

PhilHealth president and CEO Dr. Eduardo Banzon said the nurses are tasked to perform on-the-spot eligibility checks in the hospital setting. Moreover, the CARES nurses would also be assigned to encourage non-PhilHealth members to become a member.

“We will provide gainful employment to some of our idle nurses, while improving our customer care services, and fulfilling President Aquino’s hope and dream to provide complete health insurance to all Filipinos, rich and poor,” Banzon said.

According to reports, this project will be finalized and approved by its board of directors in the next few months.
