This made my day…
(At my Health Center, me and my barangay health workers..)
BHW: Ma’am jane,(they are used to calling me by my second name)’yung kapitbahay namin na namatay kahapon, kawawa, kasi bata pa 17 years old lang.
Me:Aw, anong dahilan?
(All the people inside my h.center, patients and all agreed and shared their different beliefs ON NABUYAGAN. That’s the term)
Upon hearing this information from these people, I just can’t help myself, but to intervene, placed my role, my job in this community I’m serving… TO BE A HEALTH ADVOCATE..TO BE AN EDUCATOR..Rendering PUBLIC HEALTH SERVICE IS NOT A JOKE!..It ‘s like every person you encounter is a CHALLENGE! A challenge of acknowledging different VALUES, BELIEFS.CULTURE AND EVEN THEIR ATTITUDES and not to IMPOSE YOUR OWN!
Being in the field of Public Health for almost 3yrs.this kind of scenario is not new anymore and expecting more of this.. My system is used to teaching, educating them in terms of health. It’s not easy, because I have so many factors to consider to provide all those information, knowledge with my clients. But I never get tired of doing it!
However, sometimes, your presence to them is “Nakasusuya, nakaiirita kasi nga feeling nila pinakikialaman, o pinangunguhan mo sila.
”I think it’s really a part of this job knowing you’re dealing with the public. Everything, anything deal with it…..
And what’s delightful, fulfilling and meaningful about this job is I have TO SEE MY CLIENTS LEARNING DESPITE THEIR BELIEFS, VALUES AND WILLINGNESS TO CHANGE FOR THE BETTER STATE OF THEIR HEALTH. IT GOES BEYOND ONE’S SALARY.:))))
