Win The Gout Battle With The Gout Diet

Following the gout diet is an effective way for you to lose weight, to reduce uric acid, and to have freedom from the pain associated with this type of arthritis. You will need to change some of what you eat to get the best results. What changes you need to make start with an assessment of what you consume right now. Some people have a diet that is so high in purines that they will never be free of gout problems without making some significant changes.

Red meat contains high levels of purines and that is one of the changes many people find hard to give up. Consuming more fish and more lean chicken in place of the red meat will be very effective. The fish contains high levels of Omega 3 fatty acids that the body needs. The chicken contains high amounts of protein that your body can use as energy.

You do need to watch the types of seafood that you eat when it comes to your gout diet. Many people find that by eating crab, herring, and other such great tasting food that is very rich, they can trigger a gout attack. You may have to see if this is the case for you. It may be possible to eat such foods but in smaller amounts than you once did.

Anchovies, asparagus, and mushrooms can also cause problems for you due to the high levels of purines that they consist of. Most of the other fruits and vegetables out there you will be able to eat without any problems. These though can put a damper on your efforts so you really need to know that.

What you drink can also influence your gout diet benefits so don’t overlook that. Avoid drinking lots of alcohol due to the triggers it can represent. This is especially referencing beer. There are studies that indicate a glass of red wine daily can help to reduce the levels of uric acid in the body. Drinking coffee can have the same effect even though coffee tends to get a bad reputation out there.

Drink lots of water and green tea as both of them will help to promote flushing various toxins out of the body. They can also help the kidneys to be able to remove uric acid from the body that may be building up. The amount of food you consume is also something you need to look at with your gout diet. Don’t skip meals or eat large portions as the can both contribute to weight issues.

It can take time for your mind and body to embrace the gout diet, but don’t get discouraged. You will find that you feel better than you have and that you don’t suffer from the symptoms of gout like you used to. Chances are you will also have more energy and start to notice you are losing weight. All of this is very encouraging and you will find that eating this way still gives you plenty of access to great tasting food items.
